The U.S. Department of Labor has released an updated Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) model notice.  When was the last time you updated your required Annual Notices? Why does this matter?
The CHIP model notice informs employees of opportunities for premium assistance for their dependents under Medicaid. This notice also contains information on to apply for premium assistance and directs them to their state websites for additional information.

Some employers are not aware that this model notice exists, or that it is mandatory to distribute multiple notices required by ERISA and other laws to employees annually before each plan year starts.  Fall River Employee Benefits offers comprehensive compliance help for our clients at no cost, and we are currently updating our internal CHIP model notices in the package of Annual Notices we customize for each client. If your health insurance broker isn’t helping you with your compliance obligations such as preparing your Annual Notices, perhaps it’s time to expect more from them.
